That’s the date the 2009 Super 14 is set for kick-off when the Highlanders host the Brumbies in the opening match of what is set to be another exhilarating competition.
As always, there will be no shortage of talent on offer from all sides involved.
The Crusaders, as defending champions, have lost some pretty hefty personnel but will still begin the campaign as the team to beat. They may be missing former coach Robbie Deans and key playmaker Dan Carter, yet with Richie McCaw and a host of experienced leaders around him the side will certainly be aiming for an eighth title.

The IRB Sevens World Series is without doubt some of the most breathtaking rugby you'll ever witness. With the likes of Fiji's William Ryder, Samoa's Uale Mai and New Zealand's Nigel Hunt – the skills on show have to be seen to be believed. The sevens series spans the globe and tournaments such as Hong Kong and Wellington are as much about the carnival atmosphere as they are about the actual rugby being played.

And by the number of teams who are lining up or the 18th Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival in Sydney 2010, there seems to be plenty of people who agree with that sentiment. Sydney has earned an exceptional reputation for hosting premier sporting events, none more so than the 2000 Olympic Games, and that will undoubtedly hold it in good stead as the global rugby fraternity bears down on Australia's largest ciity. It's a city that knows how to party and is bound to show the golden oldies a great time.
