Mortlock ruled out of opener

SKIPPER STIRLING Mortlock will miss the Rebels’ season-opener against the Waratahs with a calf injury.

Hooker Ged Robison will also sit out the match with the same ailment, but fullback Kurtley is tipped to play.

Mortlock failed a fitness test this morning and his No 13 shirt is likely to be worn by Mitch Inman.

Former Wallaby Adam Freier, who has battled back and arm injuries over the past two seasons, is in the running to take Robinson's spot in the middle of the front-row along with Heath Tessmann.

The Rebels will name their side on Wednesday.
